PEACE amidst troubled times
Annoyances, perplexities and cares would exist in this world as long as there is sin but God has given us advice that minimizes the influence that such would have on our short sojourn on this earth. While the world is in turmoil over the corona virus the Bible assures us that with God’s people should be found a peace that passeth all understanding, for we were not only warned of the coming of perplexing events but we were also told that as the earth waxeth old, greater troubles are to be expected. Yet, amidst it all we should always remember that, 2 Timothy 1:7 says, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.“ So that during all these troubled times God’s people are suppose to possess sound minds and not a spirit of fear. The world is fearful, great fear has seized many, even among God’s professed people...how then are we different from the world? Shouldn’t God’s professed people in this time be a beacon of hope and light? Shouldn’t the peace and confidence in God help us to exhibit a spirit that would lead men to enquire of the God we serve? As men’s hearts fail them for fear, for looking after those things that are coming upon the earth, shouldn’t we, because of our experience offer them an alternative that restores to them their peace of mind?
We should be as Enoch, as he left his country dwelling and visited the cities to preach righteousness, men should see and feel the presence of a power higher that this world has to offer. As the world sink into more travail, the peace present in the child of God becomes more evident. As satan seeks to put many in Christless graves, there should be a people experienced with God enough to rescue the perishing. The country living message was in part, to produce such a people. The environment of the country dwelling imparts to one a settled mental state that cannot ever be obtained in the city. When man was first created he was put into a garden home where communion with his maker was found. Here, while engage in his daily rounds, man found peace, rest and contentment. Today, many have neither peace, nor rest, nor contentment. There is an ever striving after the things of this world and a continual disappointment of its effects on the life.
2 Kings 9:22 says, “And it came to pass, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, Is it peace, Jehu? And he answered, What peace, so long as the whoredoms of thy mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts are so many?” As the modern day Jezebel ascends the throne of the earth, there will be no peace on this earth until Christ bursts the clouds of heaven. As the Holy Spirit is gradually being removed from the earth, men would more openly reveal their sinful nature and Satan would be given control of many. The only peace that would be available would be found in Christ. John 16:33 says, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” As we hide in Christ, His peace is given to us that we may stand unmoved amidst the tempest of the world. Remember Christ said, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27 May this peace be your experience.
